Progressive Roofing won the bid for the roof work at Canyon del Oro High School. One of their workers brought a gun and shot himself in the leg. Heroes rushed in to save him, but with all their efforts, he died that day. The news reports that everyone else was safe on the other side of the campus. When they heard the gunshot, the school went into lockdown and called the police. The police discovered the man had shot himself with his gun.
The employer, Progressive Roofing also released a statement:
“Unknown to the Company, a roofer, Noel Watts, was apparently carrying a loaded gun on a job site, and it accidentally discharged and killed the employee. The Company prohibits carrying loaded weapons on job sites. Even though the individual was violating the Company’s safety policies, practices, and procedures, the Company’s thoughts and prayers are with the employee, Noel Watts, and his family and friends based on the tragic accident that occurred. The Company and local law enforcement are investigating this matter, and the Company is cooperating with the investigation. Safety is a top priority at Progressive Roofing. The Company has written safety programs and conducts regular training. The Company’s policy prohibits the possession of weapons at a job site. The Company is committed to providing its employees with a safe and healthy workplace.”
Any parent understands the lingering fear "Is my child Ok." This situation is a nightmare! The man was carrying a gun on a school campus. He hid it, and he knew he had it. What did he need a gun for on the job site? The news articles say everyone is safe, and that is great. But the question lingers on, "why did he bring a gun that day." Could this have been much worse?
An unfortunate and scary event. That will no doubt, change the lives of several people.
Be safe, folks and guys DONT BRING A GUN TO WORK!
