Thermal cameras are a great tool to help find leak sources, trapped water, and latent moisture in the system. But it's not magic, and there are a few things you should know to understand better why it works and how to use it.
Here are some quick facts
1. During the day it's hot, and the sun is shining
2. Water will heat up and retain that heat more than the surrounding materials
3. When the sun goes down, and the air is colder the heat will start to escape from the roof
4. Since the wet areas are hotter, we can see the difference using a thermal camera
